Basics of Polymer Clay
Alternative Ornament Hanger
For those of you that don't want a hole and threaded ribbon used for hanging your ornament creation, there's another, more advanced option:  bake in a paper clip, jewelry jump ring or (ironically) ornament hanger.  The only real "rule" governing your choice would be material:  metal only.  No plastic paper clips or plastic-coated paper clips or ornament hangers.

Roll out your sheet of polymer clay using the pasta press (set on level 7 thickness), place it on a piece of parchment paper on your ceramic tile work surface, and select the cookie cutter you'll be using.

After cutting out your ornament, set it aside and roll out another sheet of polymer clay using a lower thickness setting (4 is used here) for a much thinner sheet of polymer clay.

Using the edge of the cutter from the end or edge where you'll be placing the hanger, cut a covering corner from the side of your polymer clay sheet.

After cutting the corner, set it aside and get your hanger (ornament hanger, paper clip, jump ring, etc.).

Position your metal hanger on your clay ornament so that an appropriate amount extends past the edge of the clay.  Note that the open end of the hanger is below the edge of the clay and the bottom end is a closed loop.

Match the cut corner to the corresponding edge of your ornament and cover the hanger.  Using your fingertips, smoosh the cover corner down, blending that layer with the original ornament and covering the hanger.

Leaving on the parchment paper (and, if you like, the ceramic tile), bake the ornament according to the manufacturer's instructions.  Remove from the oven, cool, sign (before adding decorations), decorate and seal.
